Statues do nothing for me.
It doesn’t alter my thoughts on any subject or any person. I’ve always viewed statues moreso as a piece of art similar to the Madame Tussaunds Wax Museum or artistry would see in a art gallery. Which now brings me to Joe Paterno’s statue that’s located on the Penn State campus and the debate that surrounds it after the latest finding in the damning Penn State investigation that has Joe Pa as an enabler to convicted child molester and sicko Jerry Sandusky. Joe Paterno or his legacy has never had any effect on me. I have no personal connection to the Penn State University nor it’s fans. Quite frankly I’ve always disliked them solely for athletic reasons. Nothing more. Nothing less. So yes I am far removed from College Town. Quite frankly the only time I’ve truly gave a damn about Joe Paterno was when he became the winningest Divison 1A coach in NCAA history and that was only because it came at the expense of my favorite southerner himself Bobby Bowden (Florida State fan here). Am I disgusted that the statue of Joe Paterno continues to stand even in the wake of the release of the damning and shocking Freeh Report bomb that was dropped July 12th? Yup. Am I surprised that the board of trustees right now in the short term have allegedly decided to let perception supercede what action should be taken and leave up the damn statue in light of the latest curve ball in this wide scaled investigation. Nope. Quite frankly nothing that Penn State University does from this point on no longer surprise me. Penn State even after these allegations remains to be self serving jackasses. Not even after the bomb also known as 267 pages “The Freeh Report” was dropped right on their heads thus confirming what we all speculated was happening behind closed doors. The fact that “the board” continues to be steadfast and to only concern themselves of their schools “perception” to appease their student body and to be politically correct is what continues to trouble me. See this exact thinking is the very reason your school is in the mess it is right now. That statue should have came down even before Jerry Sandusky was even convicted by his peers of child molestation last month. It’s because of Joe Paterno and the rest of the Penn State cronies that more children were harmed. And not once but TWICE they had opportunities to put to rest what was a pattern in regards to Jerry Sandusky. Mr Paterno….Mr. Sandusky didn’t need to be enabled or spoken too. His ass needed to be in jail and now once again because of your disdain and unwillingless to use your “power”, dozens of more kids were harmed as a result of your inaction and thus exposing YOUR priority of the welfare of the school first before the protection of children. When the hell did we get to this point as a society by wasting our energy deciding whether to keep a statue up after all this? Are we being serious right now? Penn State….do the right thing. Do the obvious. Use common sense and take that thing down. Seriously what does that statue represent today? You want to talk about perception? What about the perception from the rest of America? It’s not a great one I’ll tell you that much But then again why would I even count on Penn State on doing the right thing? Their track record speaks for itself. |
