This post is zero to do with partisan politics.
Honest to God. Anyone that knows me knows full well I call out bullshit on both sides of the aisle and even in between. I just cannot stand Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz. This week he gave me another reason why. Yesterday on a American Airlines flight he was spotted both on and off without wearing his mask. He did this in spite of the airlines current policy requiring ALL passengers to wear them. For the people in the back who may not quite understand this, it’s MANDATORY to wear one. This in all honesty should not come as a surprise. Anyone who knows Ted Cruz ought to know he really does not respect himself. So how can we in good faith expect a man to respect others around him. It is especially disappointing considering the fact he is in a role of leadership. You know, something conservatives especially in the religious sector continuously preach to many. Lead by example. I should know. I came from that world. This is a man who allowed a then candidate Donald Trump to both insult his wife Heidi and father Rafael Cruz during the 2016 campaign. Personally I do not care if this was “just politics”. Insult my family and we will be having words. Probably more than that if we are to keep it 100. It’s just that simple. Instead he’s spent a greater part of the last 4 years kissing up to the President. Look I get it. Political points are a big deal i this climate and we are under 4 months from quite possible the biggest Presidential election we have ever had in our life time. Yes, that’s a cliche that’s constantly used 4 years to “rile the bases” but with everything between the Coronavirus, civil unrest and a unstable economy it is definitely apropos. Initially I did gain a shred of respect for Ted Cruz during the 2016 Republican Convention when he put his entire political career at risk by choosing not to endorse Donald Trump. Instead he pleaded to the thousands of Republican delegates in Cleveland, Ohio to “vote with your conscious”. That took balls in the moment. Instead Ted Cruz is a perfect example of 1 step forward and 3 steps back. It’s funny. When I was watching the first season of Showtime’s ‘The Circus’ back in 2016, that show really humanized him in a way where he actually came off as likable. We are talking raw footage too. Sure I was never going to vote for him but he at least came off looking closer to a human being who actually bleeds than a robot. Screw red and blue politics. This is all about self respect to me at the end of the day. Ted Cruz does not have any. On a human level that is just sad. |
