On a simple level as consumers, as sports fans, should be appreciative of LeBron James.
But we’re not. And it’s sad. And it’s not even our own fault. To some degree anyway. In 2018 we have become a think tank society of wanting to be right and only that. Fuck perspective. No one cares. It’s narcissism at its finest. Where winning is determined on a one way street. If you’re not first, you’re last. No matter you’re greatness. No matter the accomplishments. LeBron James is a victim of that same think tank. In all honesty you can blame the media for that. For even as much praise as he gets from that same media, the media more than anything love to shove his greatness down everyone throat. I’ve always said greatness is something you don’t need to go out of your way to defend. It’s what I tell defenders of Michael Jordan’s basketball legacy for years. MJ does not need your defending. In fact you do more of a disservice by defending him cause the reasoning is not even remotely intelligent sounding. Give me more than regurgitating 6-0 in the NBA Finals. But yes, the media is the most culpable of all. I get it. James is a basketball master and quite frankly the most mesmerizing since, well the other #23. Who knows. Maybe in 10, 15, 50 years there will come a day where we can appreciate LeBron James while not getting inundated and beaten over the head about his greatness by ESPN. Sometimes less is more. In this case it’s not sometimes. It’s pretty much required. |
