Before last weekend I was entirely convinced Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa was an absolute lock to win the Heisman trophy. At the time I was ok with it as well. He has been nothing but dominant for the 2018 season.
Then the SEC title game happened and I flipped. I imagine most voters did as well given the combination of Jalen Hurts bringing Alabama back from behind to beat Georgia and Kyler Murray’s zero margin of error due to the atrocious defense Oklahoma has displayed all season. Tua had a rough SEC championship game which ended with him getting injured in the 2nd half with his team trailing. The perception likely left that may have swayed voters was the fact that any quarterback (in this case Jalen Hurts) could’ve stepped in the same role and taken his team to victory. Guess what. They got it right. Even I had to do an about face. Even though Murray decided to stick to baseball I just wish he would really consider the NFL. The league is at its absolute safest for quarterbacks. He would be great. Marketable. Plus his skill set now is more accepted in the league now. |
