Funny how the brain works sometimes.
On Saturday Night for some random reason I decided to look up Jonah Keri, one of my absolute favorite baseball writers on Twitter. For the record I do follow him. It’s just that he doesn’t tweet as much as he used to and in all honesty I have not seen nor heard much from him since he ended his CBS podcast “The Jonah Keri Podcast” back in February. His Twitter was gone which felt that odd. My initial thoughts were that maybe he’s taking a hiatus from social media like I’m currently doing with Facebook. Nope. Decided to look him up on in a search engine on Twitter. Turns out he was arrested for both assaulting and threatening to kill his wife in mid/late July. To say I am shocked would be an understatement. I say that only cause if you’ve ever seen, read or heard Jonah Keri’s work, alleged domestic abuser wouldn’t come to mind. Not by a long shot. In fact though the guy is supposedly a rather large dude, his demeanor on his once semi popular podcast comes off much more unassuming and quite frankly, a bit dorky. Which isn’t a bad thing honestly when you’re building trust with your audience. I’m already two weeks behind the ball on this story but the backlash has already been in motion. So much that Keri has already deleted his twitter account. It’s not for me to say whether he’s innocent or guilty although if you read his lawyer’s statement on the case, you can interpret that something happened. If this story is true, it’s a career ender. He’s already lost two of his gigs and The Athletic has him on suspension pending the investigation. Such a sad story. |
