Tonight I decided to take in a quiet movie night with my wife and punt on the NBA All Star game. I’ll be completely honest. As much as I adore the National Basketball Association, in recent years I have actually decided against watching the All-Star game. Shocking right? It’s nothing personal. It’s an attempt to get a breather into the otherwise hectic NBA regular season which I do personally invest my time into. Which leads me to Fergie. 1/3 of the famed Black Eye Peas. While enjoying my peaceful night with my wife indulging in Spider Man: homecoming, I get a bunch of texts and alerts about her performance of the national anthem. Supposedly it was not pretty. You be the judge. I know when I hear a really bad rendition of the National Anthem. Believe me the bar has been set low once before. YouTube Carl Lewis or Roseanne Barr. Better yet I’ll leave the links here for you. If you’re being compared to these two performances, chances are your night was a disaster.
Best thing Fergie can do now honestly is just own it and move forward. Cough it up to a bad night. We all know in her normal environment she can actually hold a tune. 24 hours from now, no one will give a shit. Then again sometimes bad press is ultimately good press. Now I don’t claim to be a sage with all things pop culture, specifically in the last 15 years but from where I’m sitting at Fergie has not been relevant since 2008. By the way, the reaction from some of the All-Star participants tells you all you need to know. She is relevant tonight. Albeit for the “wrong” reasons. So there are worse things. |
