EJ’s Notepad: Soccer Is Here To Stay
It’s been a few weeks but welcome back to the (sometimes) weekly Notepad where I just spew and and everything that hits the noggin. No real structure. No filter. Just tidbits on any and everything. I will make this a weekly spot once I get my bearings back but in the meantime still stick around. The written word still fucking matters.
•It is indeed incredible that despite not having the United States being a part of this year’s World Cup festivities that the interest of the event and soccer as a whole continue to trend up. Whether or not it cracks into the Big 4 of national sports interest we may not know for maybe another decade. But to deny people in this country are disinterested in soccer is a false narrative. It’s definitely trending up. Congratulations to France for winning the tournament.
•NBA Free Agency pretty much came and went. Most of the key signings were handled pretty much Day 1 out of the gate, including LeBron James deciding to spend most likely the twilight of his career in Hollywood by deciding to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers. I gave my detailed thoughts on Free Agency as a whole on the last episode of the Earnestly Speaking Podcast over a week ago.
•It has been a relatively fascinating baseball season. Yet it’s hard to watch much as of late since my NY Mets are terrible. Can’t wait for the pennant races though.
•Checked out the new twenty one pilots singles “Jumpsuit” and “Nico and the Niners” that were released last week. Both tracks didn’t stand out much. Might need a few more listens before I can truly judge it. Didn’t hate it. Didn’t love it either.
•My latest podcast recommendation is ‘The Rubin Report’. Now to be honest I recommend it only if you are remotely interested in politics and bi-partisan political commentary. Hosted by comedian Dave Rubin, Rubin is a self styled “classical liberal” who feels that the left leaning progressive movement has basically left him. Most of his current views seem to be more closer to the center and some even say center-right. What I love about this podcast is Rubin does have so many diverse political commentators on both side of the aisle with tremendous discussion on the hot button issues. Definitely recommended.
•Remember a few weeks back when future NFL Hall Of Famer Terrell Owens made the decision that he will not show up to his August enshrinement and instead do his own thing at his alma-mater? Well last week the Pro Football Hall Of Fame announces that they will not announce Owens name as part of the inductees. People are actually mad about that. Folks it’s this simple. If Owens gave the fuck you to the committee then it is within their right to do the same. Plus it’s not like he’s not getting his yellow jacket and bust made out for all to see. Say what you will and I love me some T.O. but he created this problem. Not the committee. Be mad at the idiot writers and voters who decided to make Owens stew 3 years before voting him in.
•At some point before the end of the summer I will be starting a Patreon page for Earnestly Speaking Media. More details to come in the coming weeks.
•I hate the summer. Such a contrast from when I was a kid. Can not wait for the fall to come. Better weather. Football. What’s there to complain about? Plus I’m over the summer.
•Haven’t watched much TV in 2018 due to my hectic schedule but glad to have Power back in my life. I’m also slowly watching Season 2 Of Luke Cage on Netflix. Whenever I can make time to watch I will.
