Random thoughts on Game Of Thrones, Jay Cutler, a new podcasting app and the month of August. Plus some random hot takes. ON GAME OF THRONES
•One of the things I love about this season of Game Of Thrones as that despite it being only seven episodes we have gotten more than enough to chew on through the first four showings. I can only imagine that the final three episodes of this season is just as -- if not more incredible. Game Of Thrones has done something in today's television climate that others have not been able to pull off in wide numbers. It is that Game Of Thrones in 2017 has somehow turned into a must see Sunday weekly event. It's like watching the NFL every week. Many even do rapid reaction podcasts on the show -- which by the way you should check out ours on the Earnestly Speaking Podcast. 'Thrones Talk' with my friend and colleague Darrel Wilson has been a load of fun. ON JAY CUTLER •I agree with the Jay Cutler signing for the Miami Dolphins and with obvious reason. His best year as a pro came in 2015 under the direction of then offensive coordinator and now current coach of the Dolphins Adam Gase. I don't want to hear any bullshit about Colin Kaepernick being snubbed. He was never going to be a fit in South Florida whether it was a football decision or otherwise. He does deserve to play in the NFL. Just was not the best fit for Miami. I am ok with that. Let's leave the political bullshit for another time. ANCHOR PODCASTING APP •Started fiddling with a new podcasting app called Anchor. It's a bit different than what I currently use with my old friends at Bumpers which in case you did not know hosts my daily podcast but has much more diverse functionality in comparison. I'm going to be playing with this a bit more moving forward. Unsure at this time where it would fit within the Earnestly Speaking Media ecosystem in terms of curation but we will figure something out. That's for damn sure. The more the merrier. THE MONTH OF AUGUST •One of the things I love most about the month of August is that it gives you the opportunity to reflect, appreciate and prepare. For me that represents the following. Quality time with my family. Catching up with old friends. Maybe binge a television show I fell behind on earlier in the year. It also presents the opportunity to prepare for the rest of the calendar year. Whether it's kids returning to school. Preparing for a future winter vacation. Anything of the sort. For some of us who work in sports media whether professionally or independently, August represents the calm before the storm. Football, both college and the NFL is just around the corner (sorry I do not consider preseason real football). MLB pennant time is gearing up. Before you know it, both the NBA and NHL thankfully will return to our lives. SOME QUICK HOT TAKES •The Dallas Cowboys will not be as good as last season. 10-6 record is what I'm predicting. •Enough with the Colin Kaepernick coverage from both sides. Pretty please!?!? •President Trump is in the midst of a 17 day vacation. The way I see it all of America are on a vacation from President Trump. A break from the chaos. •I don't care if you're a Republican or a Democrat, for the love of all things holy stop tree-hugging your party like it's your personal God. It doesn't make you cool. It makes you an asshole. •I need to prioritize 'Ray Donovan' for the next month. •Pretty stoked about 'The Defenders' hitting the Netflix feed later this month. •A Podcast Recommendation: "Something To Wrestle with Bruce Prichard". Especially if you're an old school wrestling fan like myself. •Hug your parents. Love your spouse. Spend quality time with your kids. Time is a luxury we can never get back. Ok.....back to the hiatus cave. Can't wait to return to regularly scheduled programming next week. STill then...... Respect, Earnest 'EJ' Christian |
