I’m not one to meddle in people’s business. I’m also someone who’s a 1st Amendment absolutist and thinks that regardless of one’s feelings that the ability for one to speak should always be protected. Case in point, Brett Favre. The Hall Of Fame quarterback decided to weigh in on the ongoing offseason drama between All-Pro Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. For those that is not familiar with this story, last week the Texans quarterback formally requested to be traded from the team which has thus far been the biggest NFL storyline not related to Super Bowl 55. Favre weighed in on the dilemma speaking with Yahoo! Sportsbook’s Minty Bets: “I’m kind of old school. You get paid a ton of money to do a certain job and just do it and let the chips fall where they may. I think we make too much money to voice an opinion, but I’m not saying he’s wrong. I think it’s a different day and time, and it’ll be interesting to see how the organization handles it.” Make too much money to voice an opinion? I’m sorry but I thought this was America. The amount of money you earn should not decide whether you can or should voice whatever feelings you desire. Regardless if you agree with Watson’s stance on his own career or not. Just because you have a right to an opinion does not mean he is null and void of sharing his..
Also it is quite rich that someone of Brett Favre’s stature to say something like this. This is the same guy back in 2008 forced his way out of Green Bay by briefly retiring which ultimately compelled the Packers into trading him to the New York Jets for a single season. Later Favre ended his career playing two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. But not without more retirement drama in between. Yet Brett Favre wants to talk out of pocket about someone else’s issues?. Mind you it is his right. Brett Favre is extremely tone deaf. Especially given the political and cultural environment we are living in presently. Not making this about race cause that’s easy bait to chomp into but I can see those optics playing out to some as well. He’s essentially adopting Fox News Laura Ingraham’s ‘Just Shut Up And Dribble” mantra. Brett Favre is a hypocrite. Period. |
